Blind Spot

Humankind is facing a catastrophic catch-22: Destroy the world by exhausting its supply of fossil fuels, or stop using oil and let the modern economy collapse. This documentary presents evidence of waning petroleum reserves and explores why industrial society has become so dependent on oil. Experts also explain how gasoline use leads to global warming and predict what will happen when it’s gone.

Irena Salina documents how our world’s water supply, without which life cannot continue, is under threat from pollution and commodification. As a handful of multinationals snap up water rights in thirst-plagued countries and companies like Nestle buy up potable water to sell in plastic bottles, Flow asks if the next world wars will be fought over water, not oil.

Dr. Monty Dobson and America: From the Ground Up

Dr. Monty Dobson—archaeological adventurer, university professor, and passionate spokesperson for American history—presents a preview of his forthcoming PBS series America: From the Ground Up, which explores archaeological sites and uses the clues from the past to tell hidden the history of America. Dobson will discuss the process of making a documentary for PBS as well as his efforts to turn his background in the social sciences into a career in film.
